Shojin Ryori - Women Preparing Buddhist Cuisine Embodying The Spirit of Macrobiotics - Video
Video of Two Sisters Preparing Buddhist Vegetarian Cuisine, Shojin Ryori Style
Akemi and Satsuki, two sisters in their late 60s, prepare Buddhist vegetarian cuisine in this 15 minute video that is so worth your time to watch. The scenery, the intent for the land they are on, the outdoor kitchen, and most importantly ~ the WHY behind cooking Shojin Ryori style ~ nearly brought me to tears.
These women are humble, healthy and youthful looking, and full of life, as they grow the vegetables they prepare in the community garden, and prepare deliciously simple, unique, life-giving food. They embody the spirit of macrobiotics, and why I was so drawn to macrobiotics decades ago. And they've created a great community as other women gather together to learn how to prepare Shojin Ryori style, beautiful delicious looking food.
One of the two sister's using the outdoor cooking space and garden shares how much more peaceful and happy she has been since devoting her time to creating recipes, and sharing her knowledge and cooking methods with others. She and her sister changed their own habits when their father died in his fifties of cancer. The other women gathering to learn come for different reasons. Whether to improve health, or for the environment, or fellowship, watch the video, and be mesmerized by the harmony, beauty and peace you may also fell as I did while watching this beautiful video,
